What to include in a media kit?

A company media kit is a resource for journalists and editors working in the media. It provides all the relevant information on your company, from background information to contact details so they can immediately start writing their article with confidence.

A media kit should include the following:

  • The history of your company.  This should include important milestones/achievements.  This allows your company to tell its story in its own words.
  • The services you offer and who your key clients are, including images.  If you have made recent changes or developments that are not yet widely known about, these can be highlighted too.  The aim here is to make it easy for the media to write an article about your company.
  • Your key statistics and notable awards.  This helps the media to get a good idea of how successful your company is, and also demonstrates your commitment to transparency and openness.
  • Contact details.  It goes without saying that you need to include all contact information so that journalists can get in touch with you.  This is particularly important if you operate in a niche sector where it can be difficult to find your company, or if you are small and not well-known.
  • Any extra resources that journalists might find useful, such as infographics, fact sheets or images.

It’s also worth mentioning how your business is different from your competitors, and the benefits of working with you. Include all this information in a document that can easily be downloaded, ideally as a Notion template that can be shared via a link.  If it is well-presented and aesthetically pleasing, this will certainly help to grab the attention of journalists and editors.

Lastly, remember not to overload your media kit with information.  It needs to be useful and informative, but if it is too long-winded and wordy, this will put off the journalist before they even start reading.
